Scottish Cup Tie Looming
With the Scottish Cup tie against Nairn County fast approaching, Manager Duncan Shearer could have a selection problem on his hands, as it appears that both Jamie Shewan and Tich Davidson remain unavailable for selection, due to injury problems.
The problem is not a case of who won't be playing, rather who to leave out.
In this week's U 21 encounter with Peterhead FC, which the Jags lost narrowly, by 2-3, both Neil "Zico" Davidson and Mike Macdonald, amongst a number of others, played very well and as a result, will be hard for the manager to ignore, when he gets his thinking cap on.
Mattie Edmond and Andy Low both scored cracking goals against the Balmoor side, but although this might seem great news, recent SFA legislation requires at least two players under 21 years of age to be named on the bench, which will necessitate either these, or the players they may or may not usurp from the first team, possibly missing out on inclusion in the squad.
Whatever happens, the match is certain to be a cracker, but although it is always difficult to play against fellow Highland League opposition in the national tourney, if the Jags play to form, then they should progress. It is noted that County recently beat Forres Mechanics, who were themselves unlikely winners over the Jags by 5-2, not that long ago.
This fact will not have been lost on the players though and, with both David (Macrae) and Tony (Low) having been recent Station Parkers, they in particular, will be out to prove themselves against their former team-mates and employers.
One thing is certain, it would not be a good idea to draw the fixture, as this would lead to a replay at Nairn the following Saturday, then a League encounter with them, the following week.
Whichever set of fans is successful, will have to wait until Monday afternoon, (29th)at 2pm, to learn their fate, as the draw for the next round will be made then, at Hampden Park.
Let's hope that the lads do the business then, so that come 4.45 pm on Saturday, we can all contemplate who will provide the opposition in the next round.
Hawaaaayyy the Jaaags!!!!!
