MATCH REPORT - JAGS 4 BROCH 0

Buckie Thistle emerged victorious in Friday night's top-of-the-table match with Fraserburgh in the Press & Journal Highland League.

The Jags extended their lead at the summit to two points after seeing off the Broch 4-0.

The hosts were denied a penatly eight minutes in at Victoria Park when Craig MacMillan was sent sprawling by Fraserburgh goalkeeper Paul Leask.

MacMillan was involved again on 11 minutes when he took advantage of poor Fraserburgh defending to lay the ball off to Paul Napier but his shot from the edge of the box went wide.

The Broch responded with Graham Johnston attempting to find the bottom corner of the net with a free kick from 35 yards out but Buckie goalkeeper Kevin Main was equal to it as he made a comfortable save.

Johnston then dribbled into the Buckie box and squared the ball to Willie West but he fired over from six yards to let the Jags off the hook.

West missed an even better chance to break the deadlock on 25 minutes.

Johnston latched on to a long kick out from Leask to advance past Main and roll the ball into the path of West but he diverted it on to the bar and over from 12 yards.

Buckie made the visitors pay by opening the scoring five minutes later.  Lewis MacKinnon rose to power home Napier's corner with a towering header.

On 41 minutes Napier's corner was flapped at by Leask, allowing Neil Davidson to nip in at the back post to double Buckie's lead.

Both Robbie Brown and MacKinnon tried their luck with long-range efforts early on in the second half to no avail.

MacMillan then threw himself at Zander Sutherland's cross on 58 minutes but the attacker could only poke the ball wide with the goal gaping.

Sutherland then tried to lob Leask but his effort drifted over the bar before Jamie Shewan headed a Napier free kick wide of the target.

The Jags killed off the contest when Broch defender Bryan Hay handled a Napier effort on the goalline on 66 minutes.

Sutherland stepped up to send Leask the wrong way from 12 yards.  Sutherland rounded off things on 86th minutes when he dribbled through the Fraserburgh defence before scoring with a low drive.
