MATCH REPORT - FRIDAY 30th DECEMBER - DEVERONVALE 3 BUCKIE THISTLE 2
Vale were the first to go close after six minutes. It began with a short corner involving Mike McKenzie and Graeme Watt. The former shelled a ball into the penalty area which was headed back out towards him by Jamie Shewan. McKenzie responded by blasting in a vicious shot that flew just wide of the left hand post.
Scott Henry, making his first start in six weeks, beat Neil Davidson and played a ball across the face of goal which Craig Cowie was just inches away from.
Buckie's first effort of note saw Gary Clark feed the ball through to Davidson and from 25 yards he hit a stinging effort which James Blanchard parried away.
There were loud penalty appeals from Deveronvale at the midpoint in the half when Graeme Watt went down under the challenge of Hamish Munro but referee Frank McDermott waved away the claims.
Buckie went ahead 10 minutes before the break when a long ball down the left from Davidson found Zander Sutherland, onside, scampering in behind the defence.
He advanced into the penalty area before unselfishly setting up Martin Charlesworth, who had the easy task of tapping home from close range. Deveronvale grabbed an equalizer in the last minute of the half when McKenzie's cross found Cowie, who appeared to have missed the chance but when it fell back to him he fired it into the bottom right hand corner of the net from 12 yards out.
It took Buckie just 90 second-half seconds to regain the lead. Gary Clark delivered the ball into the box where it was met by full back Shewan and he volleyed beyond Blanchard from four yards out.
The game was then turned on its head in the space of 100 seconds. The Banffers were level in the 62nd minute when Scott Fraser fired home from the spot after Chris Blackhall had been brought down. Then moments later Shewan deflected a Kris Duncan effort past his own keeper.
