Buckie confirm interest in striker Johnston

Buckie Thistle have today confirmed their interest in signing Brechin City striker Martin Johnston.

The Jags have joined the race to sign the ex Elgin City forward who is attracting interest from a number of other clubs including Cove Rangers, Deveronvale, Inverurie Locos and Montrose.

Brechin would like to retain the 29 year old Aberdeen based player but he is interested in a move back to north football.

Buckie Manager Duncan shearer said: "I have spoken to Martin and will be speaking to him again".

"I have always said that if a quality player becomes available that you feel could strengthen your squad and help you progress, and the finances are there to do it, then we would be foolish not to try.  All we can do is throw our hat into the ring, and see what comes out of it.  I see it as a real testament to our club that we are in a position to go in for players of this quality.  It also shows the fans that we are trying to attract the best players we can to Buckie Thistle."

Elgin City have had two offers for Johnston rejected and have now pulled out of the signing race.  Montrose have revived their interest after failing to land the player when he joined Brechin from Elgin in the summer while, Deveronvale, Inverurie and Cove, another of Johnston's former clubs, are also keen.

Shearer said: "you try to keep these things quiet but it's not long before Journalists get hold of the news and are on the phone and its out in the open"!

An article confirming the Jags interest in the player, has appeared in todays Press & Journal.
