Match Report -- Rothes 1 Buckie Thistle 2 , late Low winner keeps Jags top.
The match kicked off in glorious sunshine on a dry Mackessack Park pitch. The Jags starting line up had three changes from last weeks home win over Lossiemouth. In came Graeme Stewart, Andy Matheson and Stephen Bruce for Tony Low, Ritchie Davidson and Andy Low.
The home side opted to play "down the hill " in the first half and this ensured that the ball was in the Buckie half for long periods during the first twenty minutes. The Jags came close to scoring shortly after, when good build up play between Macdonald and Duncan saw a great cross flashing across the box, but there were no takers.
Buckie went ahead in 29 minutes and it was a great goal. Stewart drove forward and played a ball to Jags forward CRAIG MACMILLAN who on recieving a difficult spinning pass wasted no time cracking in a great shot from the edge of the box, giving the home keeper no chance with his 18th goal of the season.
The same player came close again minutes later as the Jags began to dominate the play.
HALF TIME 0 - 1
Buckie should have doubled their lead two minutes into the second half when Stewart headed wide at the back post.
The Jags then made several changes, firstly Tony Low replaced Macdonald then Ritchie Davidson replaced Matheson who had been limping for several minutes, and then Andy Low came on for his namesake Tony, who had pulled up with an injury only minutes after coming on as a sub.
Although the Jags were enjoying most of the possesion the home side drew level on 74 minutes when DICK SHANKS hit a great volley past Main from the edge of the box.
This then sparked a period of Jags pressure and the home keeper bringing off several saves, although Rothes still looked dangerous in breakaway attacks.
The winning goal came in 89 minutes , great play by Brian Neill, who was one of the top Jags players during the match, saw him beat two players before a shot from his cross was saved by Dunn only for ANDY LOW to follow up and net, sending the large travelling Jags support into raptures.
So a close call for the Jags, but another three points gained against a Rothes side which are nearly always difficult to beat home or away.
