Report -- Wick Academy 2 Buckie Thistle 5

On the bus journey to the match there were doubts as to whether the game would be passed as playable, there was a lot of snow on the hills on but we arrived in Wick to find a glorious sunshine, the pitch looked good and it was MATCH ON!

The jags starting line up had a few changes from last weeks match at Fort William, back into the side came Captain Kevin Small, Graeme "Spider" Stewart and Tony Low.

There is a saying in football that you can judge the strength of a side by it's subs bench and the Jags made impressive reading, consisting of Bruce, Macdonald, Macrae, Neill and Davidson, surely the strongest for a long time.

The Jags were quickly "out of the block's" and went ahead in 14 minutes when GRAEME STEWART headed in a well delivered corner from Tony Low.  Their lead was doubled four minutes later when ANDY LOW cracked home a beauty of a free-kick from the edge of the box - right in the "postage stamp" giving the home keeper no chance. Although two ahead the Jags knew that the game was not over and Wick, who are a good football side came back into the match.

Jamie Shewan - playing at right back was late with his challenge in the box and the home side were rightly awarded a penalty kick only for Kevin Main to bring off a great save from Ross's spot kick.  Main was again to save the Jags as he blocked a shot at the edge of the box to maintain Buckie's two goal advantage.

HALF TIME 0-2

Buckie were then awarded a penalty in 56 minutes when the home keeper missed the ball and flattened Craig Macmillan.  ANDY LOW made no mistake from the spot to put the jags 3-0 ahead.

Ten minutes later the Jags made the first of three substitutions when Macrae replaced Matheson who along with Ritchie Davidson had a great game in midfield, around one minute later and DAVID MACRAE poked home from six yard's.

The final Buckie goal was scored in 72 minutes when Bob Duncan's cross was flicked over the keeper by ANDY LOW for a well deserved hat-trick.  Low was later named as the Sponsor's Man of the Match.  Wick eventually got a goal back that their play deserved when RICHARD MACADIE scored in 76 minutes.  At this stage the game was all but over but MURRAY COGHILL scored for the home side in the final minute.

SUMMARY - Any match against Wick Academy is always tough but the Jags came through with flying colours, every player in the Buckie side played well and the performance was more like the form displayed at the start of the season.  Next up is away to Clachnacuddin this Saturday and the Jags will again need to be at their best to win.

The Buckie side was .. MAIN, SHEWAN (NEILL 67), DUNCAN, MACKINNON, MATHESON (MACRAE 65), SMALL, T LOW, R DAVIDSON(N DAVIDSON 69), A LOW, MACMILLAN, STEWART.  Unused subs- BRUCE and MACDONALD.
