Report -- Brora Rangers 0 BuckieThistle 1
Buckie moved back to the top of the Scot-Ads Highland League after a hard fought win against Brora Rangers.
The Jags starting line-up had several changes from the side which were unlucky to lose at Keith last week. Missing were Graeme Stewart (suspended for 1 game), Ritchie Davidson and Craig Macmillan (both injured), Kevin Small and Andy Courage were both offshore and Darren Strong was unavailable.
In came Neil Davidson, Jamie Shewan and Mike Macdonald, with only three players -- Andy Matheson, Mark Hamilton and David Angus on the bench.
The home side were first to threaten but the Jags defence cleared. Buckie were unlucky not to go ahead in 20 minutes but Andy Lows shot hit the bottom of the post with the home keeper beaten.
Brora were unlucky not to go ahead shortly after when Sam Mackay beat Kevin Main to a through-ball half way inside the Buckie half and shot for goal, but Bob Duncan followed up with an excellent goal line clearance.
Kevin Main then brought off two great saves one with his legs and the second from a header from a corner as the home side continued to dominate.
David Macrae should have scored five minutes from half-time but he missed the chance to score from a great cross in from Andy Low.
HALF - TIME 0-0
The second half started in a similar vein with Brora looking the sharper side and playing the better football.
The home side came close to scoring on several ocassions, but some bad misses, great saves from Kevin Main and the cross-bar kept the young and pacey Brora side at bay.
Steven "Marra" Bruce should have shot at goal in 60 minutes, but delayed and was eventually tackled inside the box.
Jags Manager Duncan Shearer then rang the changes, Hamilton replaced Macdonald then Matheson and Angus replaced Bruce and Macrae.
Despite negative comments from some of the Jags support at this double substitution the Jags managers decision to "shuffle the pack" was proved to be correct nine minutes later when LEWIS MACKINNON (now playing as centre forward) netted from close range in 79 minutes.
The same player had the ball in the net again for Buckie minutes later only for the goal to be ruled off-side. Lewis then missed a goalden opportunity when he blasted wildly over after a Tony Low cut-back.
SUMMARY -- The Jags were very lucky to win this match, they would have had no complaints had the home side, who were excellent, had won by a couple of goals, all credit to Kevin Main for another clean-sheet and to Neil "Zico" Davidson who were Buckies best players on the day.
Buckie had virtually no luck in last weeks match so it can be argued that they got some luck today and at the end of the day they left with all three points, to keep their hopes of the title alive.
The Jags now have two big league matches left, firstly home to Cove Rangers this Saturday then away to Fraserburgh a week later, the team will need to play a lot better than at Brora to pick up the points from these two matches.
THE BUCKIE TEAM WAS --- MAIN, NEILL, DUNCAN, MACKINNON, DAVIDSON, SHEWAN, T LOW, MACRAE (MATHESON 70), BRUCE(ANGUS 70), A LOW, MACDONALD (HAMILTON 63).
