Match report -- Buckie Thistle 1 Cove Rangers 2
There was a large crowd inside Victoria Park for the Highland League's "Match of the Day". The Jags starting line-up had three changes to last weeks away match at Brora, returning to the side were captain Kevin Small, Andy Matheson and Graeme Stewart.
The opening minutes were a "battle" in the midfield but Cove went ahead in 9 minutes when Kevin Main came for a cross and the ball fell for MCKIBBEN to head into the net from six yards, Buckie's keeper protested that he had been fouled but the referee ignored any claims and awarded the goal.
Buckie had the ball in the Cove net minutes later but the referee this time blew for a foul on Windrum in the Cove goal, Stephen Bruce had put the ball into the net.
Cove should have put Cove two goals ahead before the break but he blasted wildly over. Martin Johnston then had two efforts at goal but missed the target, Buckie were unlucky not to be level soon after but Windrum saved brilliantly from Graeme Stewarts header, which was heading for the top corner.
HALF-TIME 0-1
There were no changes to the Jags starting line-up but they had a mountain to climb minutes later when Small fouled Johnston in the box and JAMIE WATT made no mistake froim the penalty spot.
Duncan Shearer replaced Tony Low with David Macrae in 59 minutes as the Jags tried to get back in the match, then David Angus replaced Neil Davidson ten minutes later as Buckie shoved the departing Lewis Mackinnon up-front to try and replicate last weeks scoring act at Brora.
Buckie began to get back into the match at this point and Andy Low provided several good crosses into the box with Cove defending well.
David Angus then had a shot saved at the near post by Windrums legs.
The Jags finally scored in 88 minutes when DAVID MACRAE headed in a cross which went in via the post.
Despite a period of pressure the home side could not score and the Cove players celebrated when the final whistle blew.
SUMMARY -- Another dissapointing display from the Jags team and for the Buckie support who had turned out in good numbers again. Cove deserved to win this match as they were the "hungrier" side througout and this win added to Keith losing again gives them a great chance of winning the league this season.
