Challenge Cup REPORT --- BUCKIE THISTLE 3 ROTHES 0

Both sides were missing several players as the match kicked off, absent from the Jags starting line-up were Small, Macrae, Bruce and Macmillan.  Both Bob Duncan and Iain Good were passed fit and David Angus also returned to the side.

The match kicked off with the weather improving, but with a swirling cross-wind which made playing conditions difficult.

The Jags took the lead in 15 minutes when a good passing move saw a well weighted pass into PAUL NAPIER who ran through to calmly slot the ball onto the net for his first goal for the club.

Rothes responded well and forced several corner kicks, which were always dangerous as the away side were certainly not lacking in height.  Main in the Buckie goal was called into action to tip two efforts over the bar as well as a diving save.

Charlie Bown was put through on goal only to be denied by a last-ditch tackle, as Bown fell into the box,  Dunn in the Rothes goal decided to make contact with the Jags striker after the ball had been cleared, this was unneccessary and he was fortunate that the match officials did not see his actions or he could have been heading for "an early bath".

The rest of the half continued with play going from end to end in the difficult conditions.

                                                          HALF -TIME 1-0

Buckie started the second half strongly and could have scored three goals in the first five minutes, but Dunn saved well twice from "Man of the Match"   Neil "Zico" Davidson and from Brian Neill.

The Jags pressure continued and was rewarded in 65 minutes when Neill crossed for DAVID ANGUS to bullet the ball home with a headed goal.

Charlie Brown, who again worked hard throughout was very unlucky to see his goal-bound effort kicked off the line with Dunn well beaten.

Edmond then came on for Andy Low and Macdonald replaced Hamilton.

Macdonald the tried his luck from the edge of the box, missing narrowly, then Shewan made a surging run to get on the end of a great pass from Angus but his attempted lob over the keeper was just over.

He was not going to be denied however and JAMIE SHEWAN bundled the ball over the line after a good cross fron Napier in 74 minutes.

Andy Matheson was then brought on for Iain Good, who had played well in defence, and the match finished with the Jags creating a few more chances without adding to their total.

                                                   FINAL- SCORE 3-0

SUMMARY ---  It was good to get a win in the first home match of the season.
