MATCH REPORT ------ BUCKIE THISTLE 2 HUNTLY 4
The Jags starting line-up was missing Small, Good and Macmillan, there were several late fitness tests which, fortunately saw a number of players passed fit . The Buckie team-sheet revealed a "shuffling of the pack" with a few players being given different roles, most notably Macdonald at right back and Macrae playing up-front.
The game started with the Jags on top and they went ahead in 7 minutes when Charlie Brown crossed for Macrae who hit a great shot off the underside of the bar and BRIAN NEILL followed up to net with a composed finish from five yards.
The Jags went close to increasing their lead on a couple of occassions and Bremner in the Huntly goal produced a great double save to keep his side in the match.
As usual in football instead of being two goals down, Huntly were back on level terms minutes later when the referee Mr Cobb awarded a penalty for a shot hitting a buckie player in the box, COLIN ROBERTSON stepped up to score via the inside of the post.
Several minutes later and Huntly took the lead, David Macrae who had started well ,was tackled and a cross found BRUCE CORMIE who did well to net from close range.
HALF- TIME 1-2
The Jags went further behind three minutes into the second half when COLIN ROBERTSON hit a great half volley into the top corner from all of 25 yards, giving Main no chance with an early contender for "goal of the season".
Huntly were now looking more and more confident and the Jags looked flat, so Buckie replaced Hamilton and Macdonald with Bruce and Low, as the Jags went with three at the back and three up front to try and get back into the match.
Bruce showed his strength to hold off Mo Morrison, who himself had come on as a sub, in several challenges but Huntly continued to look even more dangerous on the break and several crosses flashed across the Buckie goal.
The game was all but over as a contest when MICHAEL EWEN was put through and slid the ball below Main in the buckie goal.
Huntlys Cormie was then sent off by referee Cobb who judged "simulation" by the player, Mr Cobb had an eventfull afternoon, booking a number of players, in a match without any dirty tackles, much to the annoyance of both sets of fans.
The Jags were denied a blatant penalty minutes later when Angus was clearly up ended in the box, but pulled a consolation goal back with nine minutes left when JAMIE SHEWAN netted from close range.
FULL-TIME 2-4
Summary --- you could see from the Jags starting line-up,before the start of the match, that they faced a tough task, they did however play some very good football in the opening 20-25 minutes and had Bremner not produced an excellent double save then the final outcome would almost certainly have been different.
Once Huntly went 2-1 ahead however the Jags lost their grip on the match and did not respond as the Jags management would have hoped, they will have learned a few things from this performance.
Huntly deserved their win with a hard working team performance and a great third goal from Colin Robertson which won him the sponsors "Man of the Match" award. Best for Buckie on the day was team captain David Angus.
The Jags now face two very tough away matches, firstly FRASERBURGH on Wednesday night in the Aberdeenshire Cup (kick off 8.00 pm) then high flying DEVERONVALE in the second round of the Challenge Cup on Saturday (kick off 3.00pm). The Jags management will be hoping that Kevin Small will again be available and may also look to make other changes for the next match.
