MATCH REPORT -- BUCKIE THISTLE 6 WICK ACADEMY 2

The Jags line-up saw new signings Donnie Munro in the starting 11 and Martin Charlesworth on the bench.

Buckie went ahead in 4 minutes when a cross from Duncan was headed back across goal by Shewan and DONNIE MUNRO side footed home from close range.

Wick were back on level terms in 15 minutes when a long throw in was cleared and GARY WEIR scored from the edge of the box.

This goal seemed to spur Academy on and they had the better of the play in the next 10-15 minutes, playing some good football and coming close to going ahead when a volley from the edge of the box missed the goal by a couple of yards. Neil Davidson came close for Buckie but drove over after excellent build up play.

Martin Charlesworth replaced Charlie Brown who had to come off with what looked like a hamstring strain.

Buckie went ahead again in 30 minutes when DONNIE MUNRO cracked the ball into the net from the edge of the box. The lead was then increased two minutes later when  Paul Napier crossed and the ball glanced off the head of MACLEOD for an OWN GOAL.

                               HALF - TIME 3-1

The match looked more comfortable for Buckie in 50 minutes when STEVEN BRUCE hit a great shot from all of  25 yards which beat the keeper, hit the underside of the bar and bounced over the goal-line.

Buckie then had played some excellent football in the next 20 minutes and created several chances.

Napier, who was later nominated as "Man of the Match" crossed and STEVEN BRUCE stooped low down to head home in 64 minutes.

Bruce then set up Charlesworth who blazed over when it looked like he would score his first goal for the club.

He was not however to be denied and in 75 minutes MARTIN CHARLESWORTH scored at the second attempt after a good save by the keeper, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Wick then pulled back a consolation goal, that their good play deserved, when STEWART ROSS headed home from a corner in 85 minutes.

                             FULL - TIME 6-2

Summary -- This was a "must win" league match for the Jags, they got the three points, played some excellent football and scored some good goals in the process.

All of the Buckie team played well with Munro, Bruce, Angus, Charlesworth and Napier catching the eye.  Credit must also go to a Wick Academy side who were without a number of players for this match, but who once again showed that they are a team that continues to play good passing football, no matter what the score is in the match.

The Jags two new signings made an instant contribution, Donnie Munro scored twice and Martin Charlesworth, who looked  good and should get even better once fully match fit, scored another.

The Jags have a "free" date on the next two Saturdays, the next JAGS match is on TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 9th -- HOME v KEITH in the Aberdeenshire Cup semi-final (kick off 8.00 pm).

The Buckie Team was ...MAIN, SHEWAN, DUNCAN, ANGUS, SMALL, NEILL, DAVIDSON, MUNRO, NAPIER, BRUCE and BROWN. Subs (used)were .. CHARLESWORTH, MATHESON and GAIRNS (Unused) MACRAE and MACDONALD.
