MATCH RESULT --- COVE RANGERS 4 BUCKIE THISTLE 0 -- JAGS STUNG BY EARLY GOALS IN EACH HALF
The Jags starting line-up included new signing Stuart Cumming at right back, with Good in for Small at the centre of the defence and with Charlesworth and Brown up front.
Buckie were a goal down in the first minute, a long ball was flicked on by O'driscoll who beat Good in the air and JAMIE WATT crashed a great volley in from the edge of the box, giving Main no chance.
Cove then came close to increasing their lead on a few occassions in the first 15 minutes with Main bringing off a couple of good stops.
The Jags then had a spell of pressure, Charlesworth should have "pulled the trigger" only to see his shot blocked, Charlie Brown had the ball in the net only to be flagged for off-side and Munro should have levelled but headed over from five yards.
Buckie had a couple of players booked including Macrae who was unlucky to have his name taken.
Cove then created two more chances, the ball was flashed across the box then O'driscoll should have scored and the Jags trooped in at half-time fortunate not to be at least two goals behind.
HALF - TIME 1-0
Buckie had obviously not learned not to give away free-kicks on the tight pitch and concede another just 20 seconds into the second half and KEVIN WEBSTER, who had a great game for Cove, sent a curling free-kick into the top corner from 25-30 yards, just the start the Jags did not want!
This seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Jags and they very rarely looked like scoring in the second half, Cove increased their lead in 58 minutes when Munro stepped on the ball on the halfway line losing possession and Cove broke down the left, the ball was squared and JERRY O'DRISCOLL bundled the ball home to make the score 3-0.
Several substitutions were made, Macmillan for Brown, Hamilton for Davidson and Bruce for Charlesworth.
Cove again came close to scoring on several occassions and eventually did when JAMIE WATT scored his second with five minutes remaining.
FINAL - SCORE 4-0
SUMMARY -- The Jags were a goal down in the first minute of the match and two down one minute into the second half. The score-line was probably a true reflection of the game, Cove were hungrier, more determined, more clinical and they knew how to play on the tight pitch.
There were not many plus points for the Jags and their large travelling support, with new signing Cumming and Napier their best two players. What lies ahead over the next few weeks will be a real test for the Jags players and management, starting with a big match in the Scottish Cup next Saturday -- AWAY TO ROTHES (kick off 3.00pm) and a much improved performance will be required to get a result.
