Scottish Cup -- MATCH REPORT -- ROTHES 1 BUCKIE THISTLE 4

The Jags team included Andy Low who returned to the side after a recent injury and Jamie Shewan, who was on the bench last week.

The Jags were quickly "out of the blocks" and dominated the opening 20 minutes of the match, firstly Bob Duncan crossed and Martin Charlesworth -sliding in, blazed over, then Dunn in the Rothes goal produced two great stops from both Angus and Low, the save from Angus in particular was outstanding.

Buckie forced numerous corners, coming close on a couple of occassions, then Andy Low should have scored after a well timed run but sliced his shot wide.

Despite all the pressure it was Rothes who went ahead when a cross was directed into the net  by KEVIN SHORTREED to send the "orange army" wild.

                                    HALF-TIME 1-0

The Jags were forced into an early change with Angus being replaced by Hamilton and Shewan slotting into the Jags defence.

Buckie were back level in 52 minutes, a ball was played into David Macrae who was impeded in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

MARTIN CHARLESWORTH made no mistake with a well taken penalty.

Dunn then brought off a fingertip save over the bar when Shewan bulleted a header goalwards from a Napier corner.

The Jags went ahead in 57 minutes, Charlesworth recieved a pass and hit a good shot which Dunn parried, only for ANDY LOW to follow up and knock the ball into the empty net.

The same player increased the Jags lead only a minute later when ANDY LOW nutmegged a defender at the edge of the box before curling a beauty into the net, giving Dunn no chance on this occassion.

Craig Macmillan then replaced Martin Charlesworth, who recieved a good ovation from the large travelling Jags support for his efforts.

The match was all over as a contest five minutes from time when JAMIE SHEWAN headed home from a Bob Duncan cross.

                           FULL - TIME 1-4

SUMMARY -- A good performance from the Jags, much improved from last week,  Buckie started the game well and for some excellent goalkeeping and several missed chances should probably been at least a couple of goals ahead in the first half, but instead they went in at halftime 1-0 down.

Credit then to the Jags management and team, who all played well, for turning the game round while also playing some really good football, especially in the second 45 minutes.

The Jags have been drawn away to Lochee United in the next round of the cup in  four weeks time, next up are PETERHEAD at HOME on WEDNESDAY in the Aberdeenshire Shield, then HOME v INVERURIE LOCO WORKS - ON SATURDAY in the Highland League.

THE BUCKIE TEAM WAS .... MAIN, CUMMING, DUNCAN, GOOD, ANGUS, NAPIER, MUNRO, MACRAE, SHEWAN, CHARLESWORTH and LOW.  SUBS (used) HAMILTON and MACMILLAN, (Unused) MACDONALD, GAIRNS and STRONG.
