MATCH REPORT -- BUCKIE THISTLE 0 INVERURIE LOCO WORKS 3
The Jags starting line-up showed four changes to the midweek win against Peterhead, back in the side were Jamie Shewan, Donnie Munro, Andy Low and Martin Charlesworth, David Macrae was also passed fit to play after a late fitness test.
The Jags started brightly but were a goal down in 7 minutes, a Mazy run down the left saw Mclean skip past two defenders, he appeared to over-run the ball but Cumming instead of clearing the ball, left it for a team-mate, Mclean stepped in to regain possession and drove in on goal, Main parried his effort but CRAIG ROSS followed up to smash the ball into the net, just the start the Jags did not want.
Smith of Locos was finally booked after 20 minutes, having committed at least four fouls beforehand and having stupidly kicked the ball over the dyke and out of play.
Buckie the began to dominate the play for a 20-25 minute spell, Reid in the Locos goal produced a great save to push Shewans header onto the underside of the bar and despite claims that the effort had crossed the line the ball was cleared.
The most controversial decision in the match arrived in 30 minutes when a perfectly weighted pass from Munro saw Andy Low clear in on goal looking almost certain to score, only to have the legs taken from him by Simpson, there was no claims for a penalty as the foul was clearly a yard outside the box and as the fans of both sides waited to see if a red card would be shown for this "last man challenge" the referee awarded Buckie nothing, not even a free-kick. A quite amazing decision and one which would have a major bearing on final outcome of this match.
This proved to be the case two minutes before half-time when a quickly taken Locos free-kick saw Mclean, who had looked dangerous all afternoon, once again drive into the box before despatching the ball into the corner, giving Main no chance.
HALF -TIME 0-2
The second half was a rather scrappy affair with neither side playing the style of football seen in the first match.
The Jags were looking for a goal to get themselves back into the match and Reid pulled off a grest save when one of his own defenders sliced a clearance towards his hoal.
Buckie really should have been back in the match on 70 minutes when Munro passed behind the Locos defence, Napier was in and squared the ball but Craig Macmillan, on as a sub for Charlesworth, slid in and blazed the ball over with the goal wide open.
Graeme "Spider" Stewart, playing his first game against his former team was booked for a late challenge on Shewan and limped off injured minutes later. Shewan himself was then booked for a trip on Smith.
Locos scored their third goal with the second last kick of the ball, (the last being the restart, then the ref blew his whistle), a move down the left was not cleared and CRAIG ROSS drove home for his second of the day.
FULL - TIME 0-3
SUMMARY -- The first goal was a "cheap" one for the Jags to give away, following this the Jags had a 20-25 minute spell when they were well on top, with Macrae and Munro dominating the centre of the pitch, the Jags were very unlucky to still be behind after this period with the ball hitting the under-side of the bar and onto the goal-line, and the incident with Andy Low not going their way.
The second Locos goal which made the score 2-0 which was not deserved, but the Jags are going to have to cut out silly mistakes, which are the diference between winning and losing in big games like this.
Before the match many wondered whether, after recent results there would be a big gap between the two sides, there was not.
The 3-0 score-line is not a true reflection on this match. Locos are a very experienced, well-drilled unit and will without doubt be one of the main contenders for the title this season, having picked up a maximum of fifteen points so far and they look like a side which is near to becoming "the finished article".
Buckie in comparison, have a lot of new players and hope to improve in the weeks and months ahead. Having collected only four points so far, they need to start picking up more points quickly, to move up the league, starting with NEXT WEEKS AWAY LEAGUE MATCH v FORT WILLIAM (kick off 3.00pm).
THE BUCKIE TEAM WAS: - MAIN, CUMMING, DUNCAN, GOOD, SMALL, NAPIER, MUNRO, MACRAE,S HEWAN, CHARLESWORTH and LOW. SUBS (used) were: - MACMILLAN, DAVIDSON and HAMILTON (unused) MACDONALD and GAIRNS.
