HIGHLAND LEAGUE MATCH -- REPORT -- Buckie Thistle 2 Clachnacuddin 3
The Jags starting line-up showed four changes from last weeks Scottish Cup match, in came in Shewan, Hamilton, Macdonald and Charlie Brown (making his first appearance since being injured against Peterhead).
The Jags started the match well, playing some good, fast, attacking football, they went ahead in seven minutes when good build-up play between Macdonald, Neill and Brown saw the ball crossed in from the left and PAUL NAPIER drove the ball into the net.
Buckie continued to dominate the match and should have increased the lead on 20 minutes when a quick passing move between Macdonald, Hamilton and Brown saw the ball cut back to Brian Neill who sliced his shot wide from around the penalty spot.
This let-off meant that Clach gradually came back into the match, firstly Min saved well and another header went narrowly wide.
Clach were level on 35 minutes, Buckie had a free-kick which was cleared upfield and this saw a cross a the back post headed home by ANDY LEWIS for an equaliser.
HALF-time 1-1
The second half was a more "scrappy" affair with the ball being a lot in the air, Clach went ahead in 65minutes, once again Buckie had a free-kick which was cleared upfield and the ball was smashed home by GORDON MORRISON from the edge of the box.
Buckie brought Cumming on for Hamilton and he stupidly got himself sent off minutes later, he firstly went down in the box, only to be booked for "simulation" then was shown a red card for aiming a "swipe" at a Clach defender. Buckie could have certainly done without being a player down, especially as they only had two out-field players on the bench at the start of the match.
This handed Clach a major advantage, and they made this count in 77 minutes, a corner was headed down, Main saved but no-one followed up quick enough and the ball was bundled home by GORDON MORRISON.
Buckie kept fighting and scored a really good second goal with 5 minutes remaining, a period of good passing with Paul Lamberton prominant saw CHARLIE BROWN turn and drive the ball into the net.
Despite the Jags trying to get the equaliser they ran out of time and the Ref blew for full-time minutes later.
FULL TIME - 2-3
Summary -- The Jags started well. Playing some very good football in the opening 30 minutes, a turning point in the match was the chance missed by Brian Neill which would have put the Jags in a commanding position.
The first two Clach goals were scored from break-aways from Buckie free-kicks which was dissapointing. Cumming was stupid in getting sent off and a player with his experience should know better, this made things really difficult for Buckie.
The Jags certainly did not have their problems to seek before this match with several key players out injured including Munro and Macmillan (who were both listed as subs), Low and Macrae, as well as Charlesworth (who was suspended) and hopefully some of these players will be available for next Saturdays match away at Deveronvale.
Jags fans at this match will however have been encouraged with the football played in the first 30 minutes, and with the effort put in from the players.
THE BUCKIE TEAM WAS .... MAIN, SHEWAN, DUNCAN, MATHESON, SMALL, LAMBERTON, HAMILTON, MACDONALD, NAPIER, BROWN and NEILL. SUBS (used) CUMMING and ANGUS, (UNUSED) STRONG, MUNRO and MACMILLAN.
