MATCH REPORT -- ROTHES 0 BUCKIE THISTLE 6
The Buckie starting line-up and whole 16 man squad was unchanged from last week's home win against Nairn County.
The home side kicked off "down the slope" on a pitch that was going to cut up during the match as the rain continued to fall throughout the 90 minutes.
The opening 20 minutes were fairly even, with the home side looking to use their advantage.
Buckie went ahead in 25 minutes, Kevin Small won the ball on the half-way line and played a ball into the box, Charlie Brown just missed getting onto this but MARTIN CHARLESWORTH was alert and he rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home.
The second goal came 10 minutes later when the ball was won and played up to CHARLIE BROWN on the half-way line, Charlie outpaced the home defender, before drawing the keeper and shooting low into the net for a great goal.
HALF-TIME 0-2
The Jags increased their lead 5 minutes into the second half when Brown produced a great low cross and PAUL NAPIER drove the ball into the net.
Buckie's play at times was excellent and one of the goals of the season was scored after 58 minutes when DAVID MACRAE picked the ball up in midfield and drove the ball into the "postage stamp" with his left foot, a tremendous finish - worth the admission fee alone.
Buckie manager Gregg Carrol then brought Craig Macmillan on for Charlie Brown who left the field to a great ovation from the large travelling Jags support.
The fifth goal was scored in 70 minutes when a ball was threaded through to MARTIN CHARLESWORTH who again finished well for his second of the match and tenth of the season so far.
The goalscoring was finished in 82 minutes when Paul Napier crossed and CRAIG MACMILLAN side footed home.
Rothes could have pulled a goal back with two minutes left but their player drove over the bar.
FULL-TIME 0-6
SUMMARY -- A great example of clinical finishing from the Jags, it would be difficult to pick a "man of the match" in this one as every player in the team played really well.
Rothes is never an easy game and Buckie will again have to work hard -- NEXT SATURDAY AT HOME v ROTHES (kick off 3.00pm) to get the three points.
The referee mr Roddy Cobb also deserves a mention, he had an excellent game in difficult conditions and must be given credit for his handling of the match, especially for trying not to book players (he only yellow carded one Rothes player) and it was good to see this high standard of refereeing throughout the match.
THE BUCKIE TEAM WAS... MAIN, DUNCAN, LAMBERTON, SMALL, NAPIER, MACDONALD, SHEWAN, MUNRO, MACRAE, BROWN and CHARLESWORTH.
SUBS (used) were MACMILLAN, MATHESON and CUMMING, (unused) ANGUS and STRONG.
