MATCH REPORT -- BUCKIE THISTLE 1 ROTHES 0
There was a minute's silence before the start of the match as fans of both sides paid their respects to ALEX SUTHERLAND, who was a key person since the new Victoria Park Function Hall opened and to BILLY MASSON who also passed away in the last few days, Billy gave an incredible 42 years loyal service to Rothes FC and again will be badly missed by everyone.
The match kicked off and it was Rothes who first threatened but Donnie Munro directed the cross for a corner.
David Macrae hit a cracking shot from the edge of the box which just missed the goal with Dunn beaten.
Macrae of Rothes then tested Kevin Main and Napier replied with a darting run and shot which Dunn pushed round the post for a good save.
Half-time 0-0
Buckie were first to threaten and went ahead in 49 minutes when a "shot-come cross" from PAUL NAPIER beat Dunn as it went right into the top corner of the net.
Rothes came close to scoring when a cross from the bye-line was headed narrowly wide.
Rothes were then reduced to ten men when Shortreed stupidly kicked Napier.
The most controversial decision of the match came with ten minutes remaining, Shewan headed the ball back across goal to Charlesworth, who was clearly having his shirt pulled by a defender inside the box, a stonewall penalty, but the referee did not think so and booked Charlesworth for diving much to the amazement of the crowd and all the players.
Craig Macmillan, on as a sub, then crashed the ball into the net only for the linesman to flag for offside.
FULL TIME 1-0
Summary -- This was always going to be a tough match, playing the same team two week's in a row and a side still smarting from a 6-0 defeat.
Rothes to their credit battled hard and the Buckie goal had a bit of fortune about it, the Jags should have been awarded a penalty and had a goal disallowed. There were a number of good performances, all the defence, Angus in for the injured Small, Bob Duncan, Lamberton and Main, Macmillan looked hungry when he came on and David Macrae deserved his "Man of the Match" award.
Another three points in the Jags sixth win in a row, next up is NAIRN COUNTY -- AWAY - NEXT SATURDAY kick off 3.00pm - which will again be another hard match, come along and support the Jags!
The buckie team was . . . MAIN, DUNCAN, ANGUS, LAMBERTON, MUNRO, MACRAE, SHEWAN, MACDONALD, NAPIER, CHARLESWORTH and BROWN.
Subs (used) were MACMILLAN and DAVIDSON, (UNUSED) MATHESON, NEILL and STRONG.
