MATCH REPORT -- BUCKIE THISTLE 3 FRASERBURGH 0
The Jags starting line-up had one change with Craig Macmillan in for Charlie Brown.
The match started with the Jags playing into a swirling wind and Fraserburgh despite being missing two regular first team players looked lively and the ball was in the Jags half for most of the first 45 minutes because of this.
The wind was a major factor and two long range efforts from all of 40 yards created problems with Kevin Main having to be alert in tipping one over the bar.
The Jags went ahead in 19 minutes, a great ball from Paul Napier was collected by MARTIN CHARLESWORTH who drove in on goal and slotted the ball beyond the keeper and into the net for a composed finish.
Craig Macmillan was keen to score and had two chances, the first was when he was put through on goal and tried to lob the keeper but the windy conditions did not help and the effort drifted wide of the goal, the second saw him put clear down the left but his attempt was blocked with a last-ditch tackle at the edge of the box.
Buckie keeper Main kept the Jags ahead with four saves, two really excellent stops - one from a shot from the edge of the box which he palmed away for a corner and another point blank save down low at his post which the fans of both sides applauded.
Half Time 1-0
Buckie started the second half on the attack and this was to continue to be the shape of the second half although it must be said that "the Broch" were always dangerous on the attack, they have a lot of good young players and a lot of pace.
Main again saved well clutching a low drive which spilled from his grasp, he recovered well but was hurt in a collission with a Fraserburgh forward who was entitled to go for the ball when loose, the play restarted after a minute of treatment to the Jags keeper.
The Jags doubled their lead in 59 minutes when a great driven freekick from Napier was bulletedinto the net by the head of DONNIE MUNRO.
The score was 3-0 three minutes later when Napier played the ball through to CRAIG MACMILLAN who beat the offside trap to slide the ball past the keeper for a good finish.
The Jags replaced Shewan, who was limping, with Steven Angus "Marra" Bruce came on for Macmillan who left the field to a round of applause for his efforts as did Charlesworth who was replaced by Charlie Brown with eight minutes left.
Buckie should have scored a fourth two minutes from the end when Angus shot straight at the keeper when put through on goal instead of squaring the ball to the incoming Brown which would have been an almost certain goal.
Full Time 3-0
Summary -- A good win for the Jags in difficult, windy conditions against a Fraserburgh side which included a number of promising young players.
The Jags deserved their win with another good performance from the whole team and some very good finishing for the three goals, Main produced several good saves in the first half, the sponsors "Man of the Match" went to Paul Napier who was involved in all three goals.
The Jags are now at the half-way point of the season having played 14 matches, in the first quarter of the season only four points from a possible twenty one were collected, the second quarter has seen a maximum twenty one points collected from seven straight wins and just as impressive is the fact that the Jags have kept a clean sheet in six of this seven games (the only goals being conceded were two against Nairn).
So full credit must go to all of the team and of course to GREGG CARROL and all his coaching staff for this massive improvement in form.
Everyone at the club is working extremely hard and must continue to do so with a number of important fixtures coming up starting with an AWAY match next Saturday at HUNTLY, kick off 3.00pm. Come along and support the Jags.
