Match REPORT-- INVERURIE LOCO WORKS 1 BUCKIE THISTLE 1
The Jags starting line-up saw Andy Matheson in for the injured Charlie Brown from last week's match against Fort William.
The match started with numerous free kicks being awarded in a "stop- start" opening.
Mike Macdonald had to be leave the field injured in 15 minutes and was replaced by David Angus.
Locos should have opened the scoring on 20 minutes when a cross from Ross was headed over the bar by Smith.
Jags keeper Kevin Main then brought off a great save, having to change direction as a shot from Wilson was deflected and the keeper dived low to clutch the ball on the goal-line.
Buckie's best chance in the first half came ten minutes before the interval when a cross was headed goalwards by Macmillan that the locos keeper parried and the ball cleared.
HALF-TIME 0-0
The second half started with the Locos again having most of the possession but with few chances being created.
Smith of Locos hit the post with a header and the ball was then cleared for a throw in.
Inverurie opened the scoring seconds later, from the throw a cross was played into the back post of the box, around six yards out, Bob Duncan took a touch trying to control the ball, this gave CRAIG ROSS the chance to disposess the Jags defender which he did before sidefooting the ball into the net past Main.
David Macrae then limped off five minutes later being replaced by Brian Neill.
Charlesworth was replaced by Stephen "Marra" Bruce ten minutes later and this was to prove to be a turning point for the Jags with the striker making his precence felt against the Locos central defence.
Bruce was fouled at least six or seven times and the Jags equaliser came as a result of this. "Marra" was brought down at the edge of the box, Paul Napier curled the free-kick over the wall, the Locos keeper parried and CRAIG MACMILLAN followed up to net --much to the delight of the large travelling Jags support .
Buckie now pushed on looking for a winner and MacMillan almost delivered this turning at the edge of the box before curling his shot narrowly wide.
Locos continued to threaten the Jags goal, mostly with crosses from the right from Ross.
There was yet another, more lengthy stopage in play with ten minutes left as Jags keeper Main recieved treatment for an injury to his bleeding nose which he had recieved minutes earlier, colliding with a player when trying to clear the ball in a crowded penalty area.
Buckie could have won all three points with three minutes left but Brian Neills near post shot was cleared for a corner.
FULL -TIME 1-1
SUMMARY -- this was a match which never really flowed at any time, there were a lot of niggling fouls all over the pitch resulting in seven bookings. Inverurie had the better of the play but both sides were fairly even in real chances being created, GREGG CARROL will have been happy with the effort shown from his side especially showing real character in battling back from being a goal behind to earn a draw, which probably was a fair result at the end.
