MATCH REPORT

Cove Rangers 2  Buckie Thistle 4  (8th August 2007)

Buckie travelled to Allan Park for this Evening Express Aberdeenshire Cup first round match.

The Jags were quickly out of the blocks and Craig MacMillan scored after only two minutes from around five yards after good build up play by Tony Low.

Cove then equalised after nine minutes when Robbie Henderson turned at the edge of the box and placed his shot high into the postage stamp via the post.

Cove then could have gone ahead on a couple of occasions, Henderson shot wide from an acute angle and Kevin Main then saved well from Jamie Watt.

Half time 1 - 1

Cove took the lead one minute after the restart with Henderson again finishing in off the post from the six yard box.

Buckie responded five minutes later when Mike Macdonald, despite the attentions of two Cove players, delivered an inch perfect cross and Lewis MacKinnon headed home.

Craig MacMillan then netted with a rebound header after Graeme "Spider" Stewart had headed onto the bar, only for the far side linesman to flag for offside.

MacMillan however was not to be denied he latched on to a through ball, with a suspicion of offside, but MacMillan wasted no time in despatching the ball low into the net.

The Jags were now dominating with some very good football but Cove were still dangerouson the tight Allan Park pitch and Main saved well at his near post.

The scoreline was increased to 4-2 in eighty minutes when Low and Mike Macdonald teamed up, Macdonald skinned the full back and cut the ball back for Brian Neill to score his first goal for the club.

Final result Cove 2 Buckie 4

Summary

A great "value for money" cup tie.

Cove showed that they will be no push over, especially at their own ground and must be encouraged by the performance of several of their new players.

For Buckie it was another good display, especially in the last thirty minutes with some excellent play.

Another good team performance from the Jags the pick of the bunch being Main, Lamberton, Grant and Small in defence, Low and Neill in Midfield and two goal MacMillan up front.
