Old soldiers never die.....

This week saw the passing of two Buckie legends who will be more familiar to our older fans, Davy Wood and Shaun Reid.

The former played for the Jags between 1947 and 1953 and will be remembered mainly as a tall, uncompromising defender, who with the likes of Abbie Gowie, Willie Laing, Jim Leask, george Tough and "Bomber" Thompson, was a mainstay of the Thistle side which performed so consistently in that era.

A regular in the first team, for much of his career in the hoops, unfortunately, Davy just missed out on championship glory, although the side were runners up in 50-51 and 51-52 but for all that will be remembered as a fans' favourite, who sadly died on Saturday 4th August at the age of 82 years.

Likewise, Alex "Shaun" Reid was a respected fullback, who starred for the jags between 1955 and 1961, when he hung up his boots.

Shaun was one of the most consistent fullbacks in the North over a long spell and was a member of the side which so famously were robbed of the scalp of Falkirk in the Scottish Cup back in 1958, march 1st to be precise!

After leaving the Jags, Shaun and his wife, Connie, moved to Corby, Northants, where he plied his trade as a Mason until retiring and sadly he too passed away, at the more youthful age of 70 eyars.

Both these men played a major part in Victoria Park's history and their passing should be remembered with affection by all.
