SCOTTISH CUP - MATCH REPORT - JAGS WIN ON PENALTIES
After 210 minutes of football the teams cound not be separated but Buckie Thistle kept their cool in the penalty shootout to score all four while two out of three from Forres hit the upright.
Buckie Manager Gregg Carrol said of the Scottish Cup first round win: "I think every person in the ground thought that we should have had a penalty just before half-time apart from the referee.
"We defended really well in the first half against a horrendous wind but nobody really deserved to win.
"Now we can look forward to a second-round tie at my old club Deveronvale. There will be a big crowd and I'm sure it will be a good game."
Can-Cans' manager Gordon Winton said: "There was nothing between the teams. Last year we won on penalties at Keith, so we know what it is like, but we have just got to accept it.
"There were chances at both ends but it went into a penalty shootout. Simon Allan and Graeme Grant have to keep their heads up as that is the first penalty Simon has missed in two seasons."
Reflecting on the controversial penalty incident, Winton added: "When Donnie Munro was pushed in the back my assistant Charlie Rowley and I looked at each other and said penalty, we got a break.
"I thought maybe it was going to be our day, but unfortunately it wasn't to be."
Forres failed to harness the strong wind in the first half and the visitors fared no better after the break.
Two minutes from the interval Buckie were denied a clear-cut penalty when Donnie Munro was pushed inside the box and referee Alan Frew pointed to the spot. However, he changed his mind after consulting assistant Stuart Logan and awarded a goal kick, much to the amazement of the Buckie bench.
The tone was set in the penalty shootout when regular Forres dead-ball expert Simon Allan's effort cannoned off the post and, although Kyle Scott converted, Graeme Grant's spot kick also hit the upright.
Buckie's Craig MacMillan, Ian Murray, Paul Napier and Bob Duncan all made good jobs of their penalty kicks to set up a second-round derby against Deveronvale at Banff on October 24.
