STORMY SCENES AS VALE HIT BACK AND END WITH NINE MEN

Banffers bag a replay after Buckie let slip two-goal lead in the murk.

A draw was just about right after Deveronvale rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to earn a Scottish Cup replay with Buckie Thistle in terrible conditions at Banff's Princess Royal Park.

Goals from Graeme Stewart and Craig MacMillan had Buckie 2-0 up within quarter of an hour, but a Mark Smith double earned nine man vale - who had both Robbie Brown and Gary McGowan sent off - another chance.

Vale co-manager Scott Anderson said: "It was a good game but we're disappointed we gave ourselves a mountain to climb after the first 15 minutes.  We are doing this almost every week but the fact we managed to claw our way back and dug oursleves out of a hole to get a replay is a real plus point.

"The red cards were disappointing.  I was particularly disappointed for Gary McGowan, for me the best player on the park.  He realises he shouldn't have reacted the way he did, no matter how much he was provoked."

Buckie manager Gregg Carrol said: "I am annoyed by the way we lost the goals.  When Mark Chisholm knocked it to the back stick for Mark Smith, two players you would expect to score goals, we didn't pick them up and that's a disgrace."

With the wind at their backs the visitors flew out of the blocks and Graeme Stewart opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a shot from just inside the box.

Buckie doubled their advantage on the quarter-hour mark.  Stewart fed MacMillan who advanced two paces before dispatching the ball low past James Blanchard.

MacMillan really should have made it 3 - 0 from a great feed from substitute Ian Murray, but Blanchard blocked brilliantly with his legs.  From the resultant corner Vale broke upfield.  Mike McKenzie played in Smith and he curled home an 18-yarder.

Vale were reduced to 10 men in the 74th minute, Brown picking up two yellow cards within the space of 60 seconds.

McKenzie hit the post with a swerving 40-yard free kick before Smith tied the game in the 81st minute, meeting a pinpoint Chisholm chip at the back post to head into the roof of the net.

In the third minute of injury time Vale were reduced to nine men, McGowan receiving a straight red after swinging at Kevin Small.
