BUCKIE BATTALIONS ON THE MARCH NORTH TO WICK
A green and white army is set to roll into Caithness hoping to see their Buckie Thistle heroes clinch a first Highland League title in 52 years, writes Chris Saunderson.
The Jags stand just one win away from the title following Wednesday night's 2-0 win at Rothes.
Victory at Wick on Saturday will spark wild scenes of celebration among a large travelling support.
Hundreds of Jags' fans are expected to make the journey North tomorrow and create a rousing atmosphere at Harmsworth Park.
Chairman Mark Duncan wasn't even born the last time the club were champions in 1958.
Duncan (44), who has been supporting the club for 35 years, said: "The whole town is buzzing, there is no doubt about that but we have our feet planted firmly on the ground. We have been close before, but never in a position quite like this.
"There is a big support going from the town and 52 years is a long time to wait. It will be really emotional for everybody involved witht he club if we can do it on Saturday."
Duncan hopes the club can clinch the league on Saturday in memory of stalwart supporter Norman Wilson who died last year.
"His daughter Corrina is on our committee and I know it will be a very emotional day for her. The supporters' club sponsored the Fort William game in his memory and that was the day Lossie beat Cove and Strathspey beat Fraserburgh, which was a big day. I'm sure Norman will be looking down on Saturday."
Duncan hopes the vocal backing of the fans can see the team over the line.
"The fans have been a wee bit nervous in recent weeks but we need them to be vocal and get behind the team on Saturday," he added.
Club secretary Bert Phimister added: "The supporters club are taking taking two full buses and other are going by car and minibus. I think there are a few ex-pats in that area too. It could be a sea of green and white."
Bert has been supporting Buckie since the age of 13 and is from the generation of fans who have never seen their team win the Highland League.
"It is exciting and everybody is looking forward to the game. We have just been taking it one game at a time and that is what we will continue to do," he added.
Should Buckie fail to clinch the league tomorrow, the wait will go on until Wednesday May 12 when they play their final game of the season at home to Brora Rangers.
