WINNING TITLE IS GREATEST DAY OF MY CAREER, SAYS BUCKIE'S BROWN
Robbie stunned as Jags are champions
Emotional Robbie Brown admitted clinching the league title with Buckie Thistle affected him more than he ever could have imagined.
The Jags clinched their first Highland League title since 1958 with a 3-0 win at Wick Academy that assured each of the current squad a place in Victoria Park folklore.
Dynamic midfielder Brown, who only joined Buckie at the beginning of March, won the title twice with Deveronvale in 2003 and 2006.
But he was stunned by the reaction of the hundreds of Jags fans who mobbed the players at the final whistle at Harmsworth Park as they joyously celebrated their first league trophy in 52 years.
"I did get emotional after the final whistle" said Brown, a former Aberdeen FC youth team skipper.
"This is the third time I have won it but the most emotional I have been.
"After moving down to England and thinking I would never play football again, and then going back to Deveronvale where it didn't work out, to have then come here and won the league again is something else.
"When I was joining the club, Gregg Carrol talked the fans and everyone around the club up to me, but I still didn't know what I was coming in to.
"To have experienced the fans over the last two months has been amazing, and their reaction to winning the league was unbelievable - they are special."
The Buckie faithful flocked in their numbers to the most far flung outpost of the Highland League as they sought to see their side write their name in the history books.
Carrol's third league win in seven seasons cemented his place in the record books, and the jubilant Aberdonian told his players to savour the moment.
He said: "The club have waited so long for this to happen and the players are history makers now.
"They deserve an enormous amount of credit.
"I've told them to enjoy it as much as possible because it might never happen again."
The league trophy was not presented at the final whistle at the request of the Jags.
Club president Mark Duncan opted to delay the presentation until the home game with Brora on Wednesday, May 12, ensuring a packed Victoria Park with a carnival atmosphere.
