MATCH REPORT BRORA V BUCKIE THISTLE

Highland League champions Buckie Thistle were brought back down to earth by determined Brora, who were first to every ball and thoroughly deserved their unexpected victory.

Jags opened the scoring through Craig MacMillan, but a brilliantly taken double from Scott McKain made sure the points remained at Dudgeon Park.

Delighted Brora manager Andy Macleod said: "This is by far our best performance in my time as Brora manager.  We thoroughly deserved our win.  Everyone played a part.  We started really well, we were all up for it and took the game by the scruff of the neck.

"We lost a goal against the run of play but a double from Scott McKain, one of them a wonderful goal, earned us three points.

"When we saw our opening two games were away to Formartine United and at home to the champions Buckie I didn't think we could take four points.  But we have and all credit to my players for their effort."

Buckie manager Gregg Carrol said: "Brora were well worth their win and we got exactly what we deserved.  We didn't compete and we gave the ball away too often in what was a disgraceful performance.  But, take nothing away from Brora, they played really well.

"They are a decent side but my players were a disgrace and I told them after the game."

Buckie opened the scoring in the 14th minute when MacMillan converted a Zander Sutherland cross but Brora levelled in the 27th minute when McKain ran through unchallanged to place the ball past Darren Strong in the Jags' goal.

McKain added his second of the afternoon in the 67th minute with a low drive from the edge of the box which gave Strong no chance.
