MATCH REPORT JAGS 2 HUNTLY 1
It's Angus at the double as champions Buckie leave it late
Buckie Thistle left it late to claim all three Highland League points against an improving Huntly side to make it 22 games unbeaten at home.
After his side trailed after conceding an early opener, assistant manager Gary Hake was pleased with the comeback, especially after losing Donnie Munro to a clash of heads.
Hake said: "We expected a hard game from Huntly and you can see the improvement since Steve Paterson took over. It was always going to be difficult as they came out of the blocks and deservedly went ahead but we regrouped, changed things about and were unlucky not to get a penatly and improved greatly by the time we scored our equaliser."
It was young right-back Chris Angus who was the champions' goal hero with a brace and Hake said: "Chris is very consistent and good going forward. He started his juvenile career off as an attacker and you could see it with the two finishes as he was in the right place at the right time with two well-taken goals."
The black and golds broke the deadlock on five minutes when Peter-Alexander Bruce got in behind the home defence and from just inside the area he fired low past Kevin Main to make it two goals in two games.
On ten minutes there was panic for both sides when former team-mates Donnie Munro and Ross Campbell had a clash of heads. Both players tried to continue but later had to come off injured in the first half.
After failing to take their chances Huntly conceded three minutes into first-half stoppage time. Goalkeeper Ross Bremner did very well to turn away a shot from former team-mate Andy Low but Angus reacted quickest firing in a low drive to open his account for the season.
With the game looking likely to end in a draw it was Angus who secured all three points with his second of the game, firing low at the back post.
Paterson was disappointed not to see his players take their chances before Buckie levelled prior to the interval.
"We took the early lead, took the game to Buckie and had several chances but when you play the top sides you've got to take them. Buckie were improved in the second half and Ross Bremner did well with a number of top saves to keep us in the game.
"I can't fault the effort and performance level from the players who showed they can complete against the champions."
