Jags 3 v Broch 1 A / Shield Semi Final

Morrison Motors Aberdeenshire Shield Semi Final  Tuesday 16th October 2007

   Buckie Thistle 3         Fraserburgh 1

Buckie advanced to the Final with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Fraserburgh following an excellent cup tie, which they never looked like conceding.

From the kick off, the Jags swept upfield at every opportunity in the early stages, with Andy Low, in particular, looking very dangerous.

In the 15th minute, the homesters took the lead, when top scorer, CRAIG MacMILLAN headed home through a ruck of players, following a Mark Hamilton flag kick, from the right.

Despite continuing to press, Buckie were unable to fully subdue a youthful and pacy Broch side, who caused a few flutters, when they broke swiftly, but the visitors lacked a cutting edge up front, allowing the dependable Buckie defence to dominate.   Early in the second half, the visitors had Buckie penned back with a brace of corners, but the Jags held firm and in the 53rd minute, doubled their lead, when ANDY LOW netted with a low, angled drive from 18 yards.

MacMillan narrowly failed to double his personal tally, heading narrowly wide after a sweeping Buckie move down the left flank carved open the Broch defence, ten minutes later.

STEPHEN BRUCE ensured the visitors went home without a result, when he followed up to bundle home  Mike Macdonald's effort, after the midfielder had been upended as he shot, near the Broch penalty spot, with four minutes remaining.

Fraserburgh got scant reward for their efforts in the 88th minute, after WILLIE WEST headed home from a Mike Stephen corner kick, but in the end, it was a deserved victory for the Victoria Park side.
